ZIPLOC OMELET
- Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.
- Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.
- Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.
- Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake.
- Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
- Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.
- Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily.

I did this on a camping trip once! It worked out well except that I forgot that my WhisperLite stove heats everything to surface-of-the-sun temperatures, and the omelettes, though tasty, coulda served as Frisbees.
Hey, what was the name of that sushi Alice used to make? That we ate on Field Day at Hungerford? It had oshinko, Spam, and some other stuff that I’ve forgotten. I’ve been craving it recently and can’t get my sushi guru (my friend Etsuko) to make it for me….

I just had these for lunch with clara and while she declared them yummy, they were somewhat rubbery. what did i do wrong?

Listen, I can’t believe that either of you have tried this crackpot idea. And if the eggs were rubbery, maybe they were over-cooked?
Aren’t you worried about the plastic leaching into the eggs??
Laura – I think you mean Gimbap, and Gimbap usually has pickled radish (yellow), seasoned spinach, and some kind of meat or thinly sliced omelet. You would have better luck finding a Korean friend to make it – it is usually prepared for picnics. Yum. I made a bunch for my birthday BBQ this year.

Hey Tiff,
That’s what a blog is all about – stuff that I find interesting and helpful. Jeannie stamp-of-approval… I like the way that sounds. If it makes you feel any better – I am definitely going to try the bizarro eggs – now that I know two people who have already done it and survived!
